April/May/June Update + Summer Info!

Long time no see Speechies and Debabes! I apologize in advance for the long overdue update, but there is a LOT of tea to spill about the end of the 2018-2019 Speech & Debate season. So without further ado, here is a recap of all the things that went down as well as some important information for the summer, all for your consumption. Enjoy!

From April 18th-20th, the team was at Western Oregon University in Monmouth, OR to compete at the OSAA 2019 State Championships! It was a huge learning experience for our veterans and rookies, with so many of the members getting to spectate different events, and even compete! These are the results from the championships:

Hunnie Sebeh (Senior) - POI Semi-Finalist
Congratulations and good job to everyone who competed at state! It was such an honor to see everyone try their best and finish off the year on a good note.
It's safe to say that we had a blast at state, and I can say that it was an honor to spend time with all of the teammates and meet people from other schools too. A vlog has been uploaded on our YouTube channel to showcase what our team was up to while at Western Oregon! Check it out!

On May 1st, 2019, a handful of our members went to visit Centennial Middle School to show the upcoming freshmen what it's like to be on the team!
Everyone's enthusiasm, passion and love for the activity and team was showcased through each person's speech, and we managed to compile a list of upcoming freshmen that are interested in joining! We hope that we are able to welcome the new members with open arms as the next school year rolls around.

On May 3rd, 2019, the team celebrated the successes of and said farewell to our 2019 seniors at the senior-goodbye party. All this time, they've been dedicated and hardworking members who will be missed dearly when they are gone. Here are the beloved seniors of the class of '19:

On June 14-15, 2019, the team traveled to a paradise getaway (half joking) for the annual Speech & Debate team retreat! During our time there, we worked on our pieces, as well as participating in a ton of team-bonding activities! It was a blast!

The summer doesn't stop the Centennial team from grinding! The ENTIRE team got scholarships for the Debate day camp on July 22-26, 2019! It is a great opportunity to polish up your debate skills and prepare for next season.

And that sums up everything that has happened as the season wrapped up. Congratulations again to everyone who has made it through the entire season! Now, you have officially gained the rights to flex the activity.
Remember to work on your pieces over the summer! The sooner you prepare, the less stress you'll have to go through once the next season rolls around! Don't procrastinate!
