What are the benefits of becoming part of the team?
By joining speech and debate, you will gain valuable skills such as being able to intelligently discuss current events that matter and the confidence to speak in front of others. In addition, it's a community unllike any other! There are also many opportunities for college credit and scholarships.
What are the competitions like?
They typically last for about 12 hours and consist of 3 rounds plus a final round for those who qualify. When you're not competing, you are hanging out with the rest of the team in the common area or practicing your speeches if hard work is your thing.

What if I'm not good at public speaking?
That's totally ok! When you're starting out you don't compete against the people that have been doing it awhile. You start out with other newbies. We are a cooperative team that supports each other and helps each other improve. Plus, Mrs. Loeung knows her stuff.
Do I need to keep the same piece the whole time I'm here?
It's beneficial to do that so you can improve your piece as much as possible, but it's no requirement. If you're not feeling your piece or the judges don't receive it well, then you can absolutely switch it out for a new one or drop the event.
What are the people in the club like?
They are great. Most of us are goofy, smart people who are opinionated or are just looking for a cool way to have fun and be active. We're super laid back and love to laugh, so don't feel afraid to swing by and have a chat.
How do I join?
Show up to a meeting. Seriously, it's that easy.
