Oh boy, we need to talk. It's been a very exciting few months for the Centennial team, as anticipation and preparation for districts all culminated to one of the most stressful parts of the entire season. There is a lot to unpack here, so without further ado, here is all of the tea for this month, all for your consumption. Enjoy :).
----
On February 13th, Centennial held its very first BQD tournament fundraiser. At this fundraiser, we held many debate rounds all surrounding the question of whether or not humans are primarily driven by self-interest. The food was abundant, and so were the wins for our team members. These are the following results from this tournament:
Rachel Le and Daniel Torres-Medina (sophomores) - 1st place
Matthew Maillet and Jesse Fonseca (junior, freshman) - 2nd place
James Le and Kit Bishop (junior, sophomore) - 3rd place
----
This was it folks. On March 7th and 9th, the Mt. Hood conference district tournament for speech and debate took place at Sandy High School. The top 2 in each event would advance to the state championships in April and the third place finisher would be an alternate. TONS of our team members made it, and this is the long list of everyone who will be heading to Monmouth to show what we're made of:
STATE ALTS:
Jaden Gebauer (freshman) - ADS
Daniel Torres-Medina and Miguel Hernandez-Gonzales (sophomore, junior) - CX
Shelbey Colt and Henry Dobesh (sophomores) - Duo
Matthew Maillet (junior) - Extemp *DUE TO A QUALIFER FROM ANOTHER SCHOOL NOT BEING ABLE TO ATTEND, MATTHEW WILL BE COMPETING AT STATE IN EXTEMP!*
James Le (junior) - Impromptu
Alex Dimitrov (freshman) - Informative
Wen Chi Chen (junior) - Oratory
Rachel Le and Jessica Cornea (sophomores) - PoFo
STATE QUALS:
Hao Li (junior) - LIELL 1st
Zane Al-Saood (freshman) - LIELL 2nd
Shelbey Colt (sophomore) - LD
Hunnie Sebah (senior) - POI
Rodrigo Vidal-Ornealas (senior) - Prose
Kit Bishop and Elizabeth Dimitrova (sophomore, freshman) - PoFo
Rachel Le (sophomore) - Radio
Jesse Fonseca (freshman) - Congress
Jessica Cornea (sophomore) - Congress
Congratulations to everyone who participated at districts! Do not fret if you did not qualify this time around. There is plenty of time for you to improve and the best first step you can take is to evaluate the cream of the crop competitors at state next month. We'll see all of you there!

We also have quite a few birthdays to celebrate on the team in February/March. First of all, a veteran competitor who is spending his last year with us is turning 18 on February 17th! Rodrigo Vidal-Ornealas is a lover of prose, going to state in the event for the last two years. Happy birthday Rodrogo, as Matthew would say. Next, on March 14th, the loveable and eccentric freshie of our team, Marissa Bennett, is turning 15. Marissa has been making us laugh this year with her ADS skills, and has even bravely done parli at multiple tournaments. Finally, on March 28th, Daniel Torres-Medina is turning 16. He joined this year and has been supportive of us even when he wasn't competing in informative.
----
That was the bulk of what took place in February/March. I'm sorry for the super late update, but I've already gotten a head start on next month's and will be ready to post about state whenever I get time from work. Thanks for sticking around! Remember to get the food you signed up to bring to state and to get all your permission slips and money turned into Mrs. Loeung. You guys rock!

Now, after 2 long months, here is the officially endorsed Taylor Swift gif. Btw, is anyone else excited for April 26th??
