Happy spooky season everyone! The speech season has now been kicked into full swing and we have some exciting news to share. In this edition of our monthly update, you will find our plans for the month and some interesting tidbits about this month's tournament as well as next month's, all for your consumption. Enjoy :).

----

On Saturday, October 6th, we attended our very first tournament of the year at Sandy High School, right in our own district. The number of schools attending was up considerably from this same tournament last year, but we were still able to show how awesome we are by bringing the second largest team of people there and finaling in many events. These are the following results from the tournament:

Rachel Le (sophomore) - 1st place Novice Informative

Florance Hazrati (junior) - 3rd place Novice Informative

Travis Tran (junior) - 4th place Novice Informative

Jesse Fonseca & Ethan Miller (freshmen) - 3rd place Novice Parli

Zahra Khalid (senior) - 4th place Novice Poetry

Tabarek Alsaood (junior) - 1st place Novice Prose

Shelbey Colt (sophomore) - 1st place Open Informative

Hunnie Sebah (senior) - 2nd place Open Poetry

Rodrigo Vidal-Ornealas (senior) - 6th place Open Prose

As you can see, the novices absolutely owned this tournament. It's not always easy trying something new, especially when that something new is putting yourself up to be criticized by judges and speaking in front of strangers. We couldn't be prouder of all the novices, no matter where they placed. You guys rock and deserve credit for becoming part of this awesome community, and we can't wait to see where you'll go from here.

Other miscellaneous highlights from the day include (but are not limited to) playing pop-see-koh while waiting for awards to begin, singing Hamilton, and just the overall time spent with teammates!

We would also like to extend a special thanks to all the judges who volunteered their time to help us out. We, as a team, genuinely respect and appreciate the judges who took the time out of their day to make sure the tournament ran smoothly. Also, a super special thanks to the bus driver and our very own Mrs. Loeung. You guys are pretty cool.

----

On October 18th, the school will be hosting Eagle Expo, an event that showcases all the hard work various classes and clubs do. For eagle expo, we will be outside of room 125 to show off our stuff from 5:30-7:30pm. Volunteers to help out are needed, so please let Mrs. Loeung know if you can make it!

----

This month, we also have three very special October birthdays to celebrate. On October 13th, Alex and Elizabeth Dimitrov(a) (freshmen) are turning 15! Though they haven't competed yet, they are interested in forms of debate such as pofo and parli as well as informative speaking. Then, on October 14th, Miranda Denman (senior) is turning 16! Miranda does a variety of events and also does a lot for our team to make sure our ballots and points are entered in.

----

That's it for October! However, we do have an upcoming tournament on November 10th, and I'm including the invitation for that tournament that has some important information about the overall operation of the tournament, in case you're interested. That'll be right here.

----

Now, without further ado, here is your monthly Taylor Swift gif!: (you're welcome, don't mention it :))
