September Update

Welcome everyone to the 2018-2019 school year! I sincerely hope you had a great summer and that you are ready to come back and kill the speech and debate game :). The school year may have just started, but we are kicking things off with a bang and preparing for our first competition. Here you will find our plans for the month and some interesting tidbits about the upcoming tournament, all for your consumption.

On September 4th, the freshmen had their first day of school and an assembly that promoted our school's clubs and activities was held. A few team members volunteered to man a speech and debate stand to recruit new fresh meat. The operation's success status is pending, but I'm pretty confident that we secured some new awesome members :).

On September 12th, we will take our turn at helping out the food for families bus from 3pm to 7pm. Last year we had several multilingual people assist with community outreach and translation. We made sure everyone was accommodated and that the day was successful, and we will do the same this year.

On September 21st, Centennial's homecoming game will take place and we will be operating a fundraiser at the tailgate by selling Italian Sodas. Last year they were a big hit, and we even sold out of supplies. We hope for a successful fundraiser and a win for the eagles football team this year.

This month we also have quite a few people on the team with BIRTHDAYS to celebrate. On September 14th, Rachel Le (sophomore) is turning 16! This is her first year on the team and she will be competing in Novice Expos and Open Parli. Following her on September 24th, Matthew Maillet (junior) is turning 17. A veteran, he plans to do Open Expos and Open Parli. Finally, on September 25th, Kit Bishop (sophomore) is turning 16. He joined shortly before districts last season and will compete in Open Oratory.
